THE WINE CAVERNS BRANDING

Brand identity design and development for an English wine company and their new online shop.

Brand Design - Graphic Design

The Brief

MDCV provided a brief to create a new name and brand identity for their wine business and online shop. The Wine Caverns was the final name and the work to create their image began.

I was one of two designers working on the brand identity, with us each developing routes; here is my primary route with its' developments. The client didn't end up going with this route in the end, however I love how it turned it out!

The Idea

The client was keen to visually depict an imagined 'caverns' in their brand identity and so I began developing various ways in which this could be depicted, whilst maintaining a link to the MDCV brand.

Kingscote Estate is the brands' flagship UK site and features an impressive barn conversion with large arched doors at its entrance. Using their impressive shape as an inspirational element in early sketches, I created multiple options for a brand icon, with this brand feature at their heart, representing the entrance to the 'caverns'.

The sketches below are some of these initial designs.

The Colour Palette

Evoking a premium feel with a contemporary edge, the final colour palette evokes a modern take on a dark, yet opulent, wine cavern. The colours also portray the varying choice in wine, with the cream signifying white wine, the pinks, rosé and the purple representing red wine.

The Final Logo

The final icon chosen uses horizontal lines to shape the entranceway to give an almost tunnel like affect, combined with a gradient background creating the image of a bright light coming from inside, enticing the viewer in to the caverns.

One door remains closed to retain a sense of exclusivity and mystery as to the contents of the caverns.
